Siemens' systems
Within the Siemens Portfolio, there are three platforms to create a Digital Twin. The first platform is Siemens NX – MCD. The second platform is TC – Process Simulate. This is a process Digital Twin. The last platform is TC – Plant Simulation, also a production Digital Twin. The last two platforms are further elaborated on in the summary below. The MCD will not be further elaborated on, because for an IEM student, this is not as relevant as the other two.
• Process Simulate
Process Simulate is a production Digital Twin to verify a production process in a 3D environment. Process Simulate enables manufacturing companies to virtually validate production concepts in advance. This validation of the process is during the entire lifecycle of a product introduction. The ability to leverage 3D data from products and assets makes it easier to achieve virtual validation, optimization, and commissioning of complex manufacturing processes. This ultimately leads to a faster launch and higher production quality. (Process Simulate, 2022)
• Plant Simulation
Just like the Process Simulate, Plant Simulation is a production Digital Twin. However, no production process is verified here, but the issues surrounding this process are analyzed. Plant Simulation enables simulation, visualization, analysis, and optimization of a production system or logistics process. For example, it is possible to optimize material flow and resource use, as well as the logistics process for all levels of factory planning, from large factories to specific production lines.
