Preparation assignment Digital Twin MDW
Research question: How can Siemens’ DT improve the QCD within the production process of Mademoiselle Desserts Weert (MDW)?
What?: Product data management. Digital twin software.
Definition
of the digital twin:
A digital twin is a virtual representation
of a physical object or system that can be used to simulate, monitor, and
analyze its behavior and performance in real-time. It is essential for a digital
replica of a physical entity, such as a machine, a building, a city, or even a
human body.
A digital twin typically includes a range
of data sources, such as sensors, 3D models, simulations, and other types of
data that can be used to create a comprehensive digital model of the physical
entity. This model can be used to simulate various scenarios and analyze how
the physical entity will respond to different conditions.
Digital twins can be used in a variety of
industries, such as manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and smart
cities, to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize performance. For
example, a digital twin of a manufacturing plant can be used to monitor and
optimize production processes, while a digital twin of a city can be used to
simulate traffic patterns and optimize transportation systems.
Why?:
The use of a digital twin (DT) could be an
opportunity in almost every industry. The DT is a relatively new technology,
therefore not many companies make use of it. We want to investigate what the
opportunities of this technology are for MDW.
Digital technology in production environments
is getting more important. Currently, we only know the basic idea of what a
digital twin does.
We want to know the value a DT can add to a
company, the costs of realization, and how companies can make use of the digital
twin.
Where?:
Two people in our group know people that work at companies that work with a DT, so we can gather information from these experts. Furthermore, we will gather information from the internet.

How to pitch?:
We are going to do a presentation.
10m presentation, potentially add a short
video to give information about DT.
10m discussion, answering questions from the teachers.
How to blog?:
The preparation for the assignment will be added to the blog. Further, we divided this assignment into the following three parts:
- History: Where does digital twin come from, and how was it created?
- Present: How does Siemens use and apply their digital twin today?
- Future: In what way can MDW improve its production
processes by using digital twin technology?
